About Balvenie
Balvenie was founded in 1892 by William Grant in Dufftown, Speyside, and is still owned by William Grant & Sons. It is one of only a handful of distilleries that still malts its own barley on site.
Its reputation, though, rests on the DoubleWood: whisky matured in one cask, then moved to a second to finish. Launched in 1993, it is credited as the world’s first cask-finished single malt, and nearly every “sherry cask finish” bottle you see today across the industry traces back to that idea. That technique runs through the range below, from the Caribbean Cask’s rum-cask finish to the Pedro Ximénez 18’s sherry finish. Which Balvenie 12: American Oak or Single Barrel First Fill?
Two 12 year olds, and they are genuinely different bottles rather than a packaging variation.
American Oak 12 finishes in twice-toasted virgin American oak. It’s the easy, everyday 12: fudge and citrus vanilla on the nose, candied orange peel and butterscotch on the palate, a gentle oak-vanilla finish. The one to buy if you want a straightforward Speyside single malt.
Single Barrel First Fill 12 is a different tier entirely. It’s a limited-edition single-cask release, matured in a first-fill ex-bourbon cask, bottled at 47.8% ABV, and hand-numbered with the cask reference on the label, with only around 300 bottles from each cask. Sweet honey and fruit on the nose, rich and complex with deep vanilla oakiness on the palate, a long lingering sweet finish.
If you want something you can buy again next month, take the American Oak. If you want a specific, numbered bottle that won’t be repeated once that cask runs out, take the Single Barrel First Fill.

The 14 Caribbean Cask and the 18
Two expressions that come up constantly when people are choosing a Balvenie. Here’s the full picture on both.
The Caribbean Cask 14 is finished in casks that previously held Caribbean rum, giving it a toffee-and-tropical-fruit sweetness that stands apart from the rest of the range.
The Pedro Ximénez 18 is a sherry-cask expression, richer and more fruit-driven than the younger bottles. Balvenie doesn’t keep a single standing 18 in its core range the way it does the 12s, so which 18 appears in a given year can change. The linked product page shows the current one.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much is Balvenie in Malaysia?
Balvenie in Malaysia runs from the everyday 12 Year Olds up to rare, older bottlings like the 25 Years Rare Marriages. The price table above lists every expression in our range with the date each price was checked; each product page carries the live price.
What is the difference between the two Balvenie 12 Year Olds?
The American Oak finishes in twice-toasted virgin oak and is the easy, everyday 12: sweet, citrus, gentle vanilla. The Single Barrel First Fill is a limited-edition single-cask release, hand-numbered, bottled at 47.8% ABV, with richer, more concentrated vanilla-oak character.
What is the Balvenie DoubleWood?
The DoubleWood 12 is Balvenie’s best-known bottle and the whisky that made cask finishing famous: matured in a traditional oak cask, then moved into a sherry cask for a second maturation. The range above shows the Balvenie expressions we list; if you are after a specific bottle, message us on WhatsApp.
What is the Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask?
A 14 year old Speyside single malt finished in casks that previously held Caribbean rum, which gives it a toffee-and-tropical-fruit sweetness the rest of the range doesn’t have. See the Caribbean Cask 14 product page for the current price.
Which Balvenie 18 Year Old is there?
Balvenie doesn’t keep one standing 18 in its permanent range the way it does the 12s, so the 18 changes over the years. The Pedro Ximénez Sherry Cask 18 is the sherry-finished expression, rich in raisin and dark fruit. See the product page for the current one.
Which Balvenie is best for a gift?
The Pedro Ximénez 18 for a serious gift, the Rare Marriages 25 for a real milestone, or the American Oak 12 for something more everyday. The price table above will tell you where each sits.
Is Balvenie genuine at Mr. Chow?
Yes. Every bottle is sourced through verified channels and checked before it leaves our warehouse.
