Tanqueray Gin was crafted and founded by Charles Tanqueray in the early 1830’s on Vine Street in Bloomsbury. His ingenious pursuit for perfection paid off with a perfectly balanced gin and one of the most awarded gins in the world. In 2016 it displaced Beefeater as the number one global seller. While it does not command a sizable market share in its native market, its largest market is in the United States, where it is the highest-selling gin import, followed by southern Europe.

London dry gin is made by double distilling grain, with select botanicals added during the second distillation. While the Tanqueray recipe is a closely guarded secret, it is known to contain four botanicals: juniper, coriander, angelica root and liquorice, all common botanicals in gin productions overall. The botanicals in this gin are distilled immediately and not macerated prior. It also does not use concentrated botanical distillation. Today the brand is distilled at the massive Cameron Bridge Distiller in Scotland and owned by Diageo.

Tanqueray is one of top five gin sellers in the world, selling over 2 million cases each year and yet all of the production is within the massive Cameron Bridge Distiller in Scotland. Tanqueray is distilled in a one-shot method as opposed to making a gin concentrate which needs to have neutral spirit and water added to dilute. Here, they just add enough water to bring down to proof which varies dependent on where it is sold. Local Malaysian stock is bottled at 47% ABV.
